In an interview with the media today, Force India driver Sergio Perez had revealed that the team may only introduce a B-spec car at the British Grand Prix, round nine of the season,
Ever since the opening race of this season, which got underway with minimal pre-season running for Force India, the Silverstone team has been speaking about introducing a major upgrade.
Such is the magnitude of the changes but it would be a B-spec of the current VJM07. There has been talk of the revised car debuting in Monaco, which was later pushed back to Austria. Now Perez says it may only run for the first time at July’s British GP. In his interview with the media today, Perez stated the following:-
‘We are obviously pushing very hard back at the factory, trying to bring the package together. We would love to have the package for Barcelona, which didn’t happen. I think Silverstone will be the first time we have a new package.’
Even though it is a worrying time for Force India at the moment ; all they can do is ensure that they keep working and developing the B-car and do everything in their power to get it to the track as quickly as possible. Of course Perez would want the car right now, but all he can do right is be patient until the car is ready.
But despite that set-back, further on in his interview with the media today; Perez feels his team has done an “amazing” job to even be sitting on 11 points from the opening four grands prix. Perez added the following:-
‘I think the first four races have been better than expected. When you look at our position right now, we’ve done an amazing job, the whole team. We’re only one point away from Lotus, 12 points from Red Bull. It’s been a pretty good effort considering where the car is.’
However, he finally added that he fears this weekend’s Spanish GP could be a trying one for the team but no more so than in previous races. Perez said the following:-
‘I expect to have a difficult one, but on the other hand, not any more difficult than other weekend.’
Overall, all you can say is that it is not a great situation for Force India or Perez at the moment. They are already behind their rivals and I would agree with Perez that they have been lucky to achieve the performances that they have in the first four races of the season so far.
But despite this, Perez knows that there is still a lot of work ahead of them in order to get the VJM-08 B-car car ready for Silverstone while also trying to achieve the best performances possible on the car; with a car that isn’t where it should be. But all Perez can do is do exactly what he has done in the first four races and hope that Force India push on with the development of their B-car and it is on the track for Perez and Nico Hulkenberg to show what they can really do on a track soon and is the step up that it needs to be.
