It has been announced today that Toro Rosso driver Max Verstappen has signed with leading sim racing squad Team Redline.
The 17-year-old scored the best result of his rookie Formula 1 season so far at the last race in Hungary, finishing in fourth place with an great performance throughout the weekend.
With the summer break now underway, Verstappen has been confirmed at Team Redline, the world’s most successful virtual racing outfit.
Team Redline was established in 2000, mainly racing in iRacing, Assetto Corsa and rFactor. Its driver line-up includes GP2’s Richie Stanaway, Blancpain GT racer Nick Catsburg and Audi GT driver Kelvin van Der Linde.
In an interview with the media today, Verstappen is happy with the arrangement and already has experience with the format. Verstappen stated the following:-
‘I enjoy sim racing outside of Formula 1. I’ve been working with Atze [Kerkhof] for a while already and of course with Team Redline and Fanatec I’ll be sharing the virtual track with the fastest sim racers in the world which is a great test and the way I like it.’
In his own interview with the media today, team manager Kerkhof added the following about Verstappen signing for the team:-
‘I’m happy and honoured to have Max onboard at Team Redline. Looking forward to continue our sim battles like we did in the F3 last year.’
