It has been announced today that former Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari’s racing career has been put on hold due to medical reasons.
He was contracted by Virgin Racing for the inaugural Formula E campaign, but he missed the season finale in London in June as his licence was temporarily suspended by the FIA after he fainted during the Moscow ePrix.
He has undergone a series of medical tests, but he is still awaiting the results and has now confirmed that he won’t compete in the 2015/16 Formula E season. In an statement issued to the media on his behalf, Alguersuari said the following:-
‘During the month of July I underwent several tests for which there has not been a medical resolution and I am still waiting for the final diagnosis. For this reason I need to announce that, unfortunately, I will not be able to take part in the FIA Formula E Championship for the 2015/16 season with my team DS Virgin Racing.
‘I want to wish good luck to the team in the new championship and thank everyone for their support. In September I will announce my future plans.’
