Pirelli has confirmed this morning that it will host a one-day Formula 1 tyre test on the Tuesday after the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The test at Yas Marina will last 12 hours, starting at 9am local time, and will focus on developing a new construction for the 2016 slick tyres.
As reported by the media earlier last week, Pirelli will also test the new ultra-soft, which will become the fifth compound next season.
All teams have been invited; but participation is voluntary and each will run one car that will complete a programme defined by Pirelli.
The purpose of the 12 hour test is purely focused on tyre testing and therefore teams will not be allowed to try new parts or alter the car over the course of the day.
Teams have been asked by Pirelli to “preferably” supply race or reserve drivers to enhance the quality of feedback on the new construction and compound.
The ultra-soft will be distinguished by purple markings (see picture above) after the colour beat silver in a vote on social media with 85 per cent support.
