It was announced this morning that the Toro Rosso team will conduct the first winter test of 2016 with a plain blue car because it is too behind schedule to complete its official livery.
Toro Rosso only secured a switch to year-old Ferrari engines at the end of last season, a delayed decision which the team says compromised work on its 2016 challenger.
In an interview with the media today, Team boss Franz Tost says the team will run a temporary livery at the first Barcelona test, which begins on February 22, before a proper presentation the following week. Tost stated the following-
‘It will be a blue car. We will [present the car officially] on the 29th [of February] because we are so late with everything. We want to make a proper paint job as well, so we will present the car only then in Barcelona.’
Despite the delay in unveiling the official livery for the year Tost insists the rest of the car is on schedule, suggesting there are no concerns the STR11 will miss any of the first four days of testing. Tost added the following:-
‘In F1 you have always two problems. You run out of time and you run out of timing. That is always the same. It is nothing new this year. Nevertheless, because of the late decision of what [engine] we were running this season everything got a little bit late, but our people did a fantastic job.
‘The car is nearly ready. I think we will have the fire-up today and we absolutely on schedule. Therefore I am not worried for the first test in Barcelona.’
